Francis L. Specht

Francis L. "Frani" Specht, 71, of 524 Rhomberg Ave., died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1938, in Dubuque, son of Frank and Lyda (Elder) Specht. He graduated from Senior High School.

He married Laurie Parker on June 26, 1971, at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Dubuque. They later divorced.

Frani was employed as a mechanic at Gary Stewart's 76 Station. He later worked as a bus driver for Key Line Transit, retiring in 2004, after 25 years of service.

Frani enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, working on cars, auto racing and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan, and visiting with his many friends at the Lucky 13. Above all else, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits.

Surviving are his former wife, Laurie Specht, of Dubuque; his children, Clayton (Kim Rennison), Jason (Krista Morris), Tim (Geri Lang), Angie (Carlo Williams) and Tom (Patty Brecht), all of Dubuque; grandchildren, Alec, David, Noah, Sadie, Gracie and Lyle; brothers, Wesley (Dolly) Coonfare, of Manchester, Iowa, and Harry Specht, of Dubuque; sisters, Edith (Donald) Cook, Mary (Terry) Mueller and Lucille (Bill) Graves, all of Dubuque; and a special nephew, Jym Lyons, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin; his parents; brothers, Fred and Clayton; and sisters, LaVerle Oscarson, Ruth Tucker and Eva Kenneally.

The family would like to thank Frani's daughter, Angie, for special care she provided her father, and also the staff of Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care and compassion they provided.
