Florence G. Haas

Florence G. Haas, 85, of Upland, Calif., formerly of Dubuque and Galena, ILL., died Tuesday, Jan 15, 2008, in Upland, due to complications from a stroke.

Services were held on Jan. 22, at Stone Funeral Home, Upland. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario, Calif.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1922, in Dubuque, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ellen Hense. She married Homer Haas, Sr.; he preceded her in death.

Florence was a homemaker most of her life. She was always there for her family when they came home from work and school. She worked in the General Dry Battery Factory and The National Biscuit Factory in Dubuque during World War II. She and her husband Homer also co-owned The Galena Body Shop.

Florence loved to travel, having seen a lot of the United States with her husband and family. She traveled a lot with her daughter and her family, and Doris Vondran, of Galena.

She also traveled to Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Alaska, Italy, England, Scotland and Ireland. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Upland.

She belonged to the Fun After 50 club, spent a lot of time at Gibson's Senior Center doing crafts, line dancing, playing bingo and for potluck dinners.

Florence loved to gamble and went on bus trips to Nevada and Indian casinos. She enjoyed playing pool and loved to shop. She always enjoyed all of the family and friends that would come to visit and loved cooking for everyone.

Surviving are a daughter, Elaine (John) Chioini, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; sons, Homer (Terrie) Haas, of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Richard (Vicki) Haas, of Pine Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

"Thank you to all the friends and relatives that were a part of our mother's life. Thank you also for all of the concern for our mother during her illness. She appreciated all the cards and calls."
