Jerry J. Gremmel, 62, of 3606 Crescent Ridge, died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003, at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m..

Mr. Gremmel owned and operated The Cash Co. Inc. from 1960 until his retirement in 1998.

He was born on May 7, 1940, in Dubuque, son of Floyd J. and Violet M. (Luchterhand) Gremmel. On May 15, 1965, he married Joan Fury.

He was born and raised in Dubuque. He graduated from the former Loras Academy in 1959. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his children compete in various athletic events. Hunting, fishing and golf were a few of his favorite pastimes as well as socializing with friends. Jerry was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and enjoyed spending time with his faithful Buddy.

Surviving are his wife, Joan, of Dubuque; his children, Joe (Desire) Gremmel, Jan (Gary) Manders, Julie (Jim) Kieffer and John (Julie) Gremmel, all of Dubuque, Janine (Warren) Smith, of Weatherford, Texas, and Jill (and fianc, Ted Peters) Gremmel, of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; his mother, Violet Gremmel, of Dubuque; and his brother, Bob Gremmel, of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; a brother, Fred; and a nephew, Bill Gremmel.

A Jerry J. Gremmel Memorial Fund has been established.

The Gremmel family wishes to thank Dr. John Whalen and the staff at The Finley Hospital for their wonderful care and support.
