Stella Welter, 86, of Windsor Park, formerly of 1535 Parkway, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Windsor Park.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Welter worked as a bookkeeper for the Federal Discount Co. and DISCO Co., both in Dubuque. She retired in 1976.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1916, in Dubuque, daughter of August and Irene (Egan) Nachtman. She married Louis Welter on June 1, 1938, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church; he died on May 17, 2000.

She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and attended Clarke College.

She was a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, St. Monica Mother's Club, Finley and Mercy Hospital Volunteer and Mercy Advantage and Stonehill Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Patrick) Walsh, of Bernard, Iowa; four grandchildren, Susan Walsh, of Iowa City, Steve Walsh, of Clive, Iowa, Janet Walsh, of West Des Moines, Iowa, and James Walsh of Boston; two great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Marcus McFall, of West Des Moines; a sister, Virginia Strauss, of Paris, France; and a sister-in-law, Marguerite Welter, of Dubuque.

A Stella Welter Memorial Fund has been established.
