Sister Bernadine Cashen, OSF, 88, of Holy Family Hall, Mount St. Francis, died at 2 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Holy Family Hall Infirmary.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Mount St. Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. The Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Bernadine ministered as a teacher in the Iowa cities of Dubuque (Holy Ghost Ionia, Worthington, North Washington, Larchwood, Holy Cross and Dyersville (Beckman). She also ministered in Texas (Kenedy and Tyler) and Earlville, Iowa.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1914, in Winthrop, Iowa, daughter of John and Gertrude (Ringold) Cashen.

She entered the sisters of St. Francis on Aug. 15, 1932, and made her final profession of religious vows on Aug. 12, 1938.

Surviving are her sisters, Mary Coke and Dorthy Wiley; brothers, Bernard and Richard (Vivian); many nieces and nephews; and the Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared 68 years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ralph (Nettie), John (Henrietta), Malachi (Frances), and Francis (Norda); sisters, Margaret Cashen and Alice (Ray) Kortenkamp; and a brother-in-law, Mitchell Coke.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Mount St. Francis.
