Anthony L. Rosemeyer

Telegraph Herald - Friday, April 25, 2003

Anthony L. "Tony" Rosemeyer, 42, of 802 Goethe St., Dubuque, formerly of East Dubuque, Ill., died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2003, in Menominee Township of Jo Daviess County.

Honoring Tony's request, private family services will be today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque. There will be no public visitation.

Mr. Rosemeyer was director of Westside Fitness Center.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1960, in Dubuque, son of Francis R. and Pearl L. (Hamilton) Rosemeyer. He married Nancy Lester on Oct. 13, 1990.

He was a 1979 graduate of East Dubuque High School and a 1984 graduate of the University of Dubuque.

During his years as a high school athlete, he was named All-Conference in basketball in Jo Daviess County during his senior year.

He was a devoted husband and father. His daughter, Leah, was the light of his life. He deeply loved his family, as well as his wife Nancy's parents, Wally and Betty. Each had a special place in his heart.

He found some of his greatest joy in God's creation. Hunting with close friends, hiking in the woods alone so he could better share in the wonder of the nature that he so loved.

A family peacemaker from childhood, he consistently went out of his way to avoid unpleasantness. He was a loyal friend, and through his career, he touched the lives of many people as a positive influence.

He chose a career in physical fitness and rehabilitation, basing it upon his desire to help each person in every way possible to a better quality of life according to their individual needs. A conscientious employee, he made it a practice to arrive at work an hour early in order to better accommodate his clients.

Was he perfect? By no means. Like each of us, he had his human frailties. But, the sum total was a remarkable human being.

Sharing a wonderful family Easter together, all are grateful for the gift of the resurrection and of eternal life. Rest easy, Tony. You are in the Lord's hands.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Lester) Rosemeyer; a daughter, Leah Rosemeyer; two step children, Robin Fury (fiancé, Matt Foliated) and Chad Fury, both of Dubuque; his parents, Francis R. and Pearl Rosemeyer, of East Dubuque; two brothers, Ross (Sue) Rosemeyer, of Davenport, Iowa, and Neil Rosemeyer, of East Dubuque; his niece and goddaughter, Traci Rosemeyer; his father-in-law, Walter Lester (and special friend, Betty Tinkham), of East Dubuque; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Lester, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Lucilla (Runde) Rosemeyer and George and Louise (Lucy) Hamilton.

An Anthony L. "Tony" Rosemeyer Memorial Fund has been established.
