BERNARD, Iowa - Edmund F. "Eddie" Leonard, 94, of 135 Bernard Road, Bernard, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the home of his daughter in La Crosse, Wis.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with Monsignor William Leonard, Monsignor Francis Friedl, the Rev. Tom Bisenius and the Rev. Phil Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1908, in Bernard, son of William Patrick and Josephine (O'Connell) Leonard.
He married Ardella McCarthy on June 3, 1947, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, and farmed on the family farm in Garryowen all his life.
He was an Army World War II veteran and served in Europe. He was a member of the American Legion Post 528 of Cascade.
Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn (Tom) Holland, of La Crosse; a son, James (Elaine) Leonard, of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren, Katie and Tim Holland, of La Crosse; a brother, Monsignor William Leonard, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Lucille Donovan; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardella, on Feb. 13, 2001; two sisters, Mary Leonard and Myrle Urbain; and three brothers, Joseph, Melvin and Paul.
