Mrs. Lawrence O. (Esther T.) Fischer, 77, of Ecumenical Towers, Dubuque, formerly of Cascade, Iowa, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Church, 410 Third Ave. NW, Cascade. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1925, in New Vienna, Iowa, daughter of George and Agatha (Meis) Loeffelholz.

She married Lawrence O. Fischer on Sept. 11, 1945, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa. They farmed in the Bernard, Iowa, area for more than 20 years.

After moving to Cascade, she worked at the Mount Carmel Motherhouse in Dubuque.

She was a member of St. Mathias Parish in Cascade and was a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program at St. Patrick's School in Dubuque.

Esther enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and bingo and helping her many friends at Ecumenical Towers.

Surviving are seven daughters, Mary E. Kenney, of Bellevue, Iowa, Janet K. (Ronald) Cook, of Balltown, Iowa, Bonnie J. (Robert) Molid and Sheila E. (Dan) Heacock, both of Dubuque, Debra A. (James) Watters, of Maquoketa, Iowa, Joan M. (Scott) Stewart, of Bushnell, Fla., and Connie M. (Henry Wills) Carroll, of Odenton, Md.; four sons, Kenneth L. Fischer, of Cascade, Robert J. Fischer, of Iowa City, Edward W. (Linda) Fischer, of Kalona, Iowa, and Paul J. (Veronica) Fischer, of Fort Worth, Texas; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Renilda Pasker and Rita Mae Buhman, both of Dubuque; and two brothers, LeRoy Loeffelholz, of Guttenberg, Iowa, and Charles (Darlene) Loeffelholz, of Potosi, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence O. Fischer, on Sept. 21, 1978; three sons, one in infancy and Marvin and Wayne Fischer; a grandson, Kevin Arterberry; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Helen) Deutmeyer and Mrs. Lee (Rosella) Schulte; two brothers, Louis (Elizabeth) Loeffelholz and Francis (Sandra) Loeffelholz; a sister-in-law, Lucille Loeffelholz; and two brothers-in-law, Ralph Pasker and Ralph Buhman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice for Esther.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Ennoble Manor Care Center, the Finley Hospital and Tri-State Dialysis for the wonderful care our mother received.
