Martin L. Denlinger, 78, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of Zwingle, Iowa, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Stonehill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harmony United Church of Christ, Zwingle. Burial will be in Harmony United Church of Christ Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3633 of Maquoketa, Andrew AmVets Post 62 and Maquoketa American Legion Post 75. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

He was born on March 16, 1925, in Zwingle, son of Clarence and Ruth (Hoerner) Denlinger. He married Jean Simpson in 1948; she passed away on April 7, 1987.

He was a member of the Carpenters Local 678 and the VFW Post 3633 of Maquoketa.

Martin enjoyed hunting, gardening, was always up for a good game of euchre and was a very gifted carpenter who was always ready to work.

Surviving are five children, Paul (Jan) Denlinger, of Dallas, Ore., Peggy (Craig) Flenker, of Maquoketa, Iowa, Patrick (Jennifer) Denlinger, of Elburn, Ill., Philip (Diane) Denlinger, of Dubuque, and Sarah (Tom) Knockel, of Dickeyville, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Denlinger, of Zwingle, and Allen (Marilyn) Denlinger, of Maquoketa; and two sisters, Lorraine (Lyle) Cueno, of Zwingle, and Phyllis Johnson, of Clinton, Iowa.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center.

The family would like to give many special thanks to the administration at Stonehill and to the staff for all their special care and the euchre games played with dad. The family also would like to thank Dr. Leeson.
