Mary Jane McAuliffe

Mary Jane McAuliffe, 82, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of Peosta, Iowa, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Stonehill.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Melleray, rural Peosta. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3 p.m.

Mrs. McAuliffe was a housekeeper at Marian Hall at Mount Carmel and also volunteered at Sunnycrest Manor for more than 20 years.

She was born on March 10, 1921, in Dubuque, daughter of Peter and Mary (Powers) McDonald. She married John McAuliffe in 1941 at the New Melleray Abbey, rural Peosta; he passed away on April 17, 1974.

She grew up in Peosta and graduated from Peosta (Iowa) High School.

She had resided in Dubuque since 1985 and was a member of St. Anthony's Parish.

Surviving are her children, Ronald (Doris) McAuliffe, of Peosta, Peg Nauman, Jim (Cathy) McAuliffe and Dan (Mary) McAuliffe, all of Dubuque, Joe (Sharon) McAuliffe and Connie (Dan) Wilgenbusch, both of Epworth, Iowa, and Kathy (Roger) Hershberger, of Jesup, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jay (Janaan) McDonald, of Mankato, Minn., and Tom (Helen) McDonald, of Dubuque; and a sister, Lois Sodawasser, of Waterloo, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Mel Sodawasser; and a son-in-law, Ron Nauman.

A Mary Jane McAuliffe Memorial Fund has been established.

The McAuliffe family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their wonderful care and support.
