Lavina A. Griffin, 90, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 425 Nevada, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Linwood Cemetery.

She was born on May 12, 1912, in New Hampton, Iowa, daughter of Arthur and Ivy (Wentworth) Griffin.

She worked at the Spensley Theater during the 1930's. After leaving the theater, she began working at the National Butter Co. and spent 40 years there working in the lab and wrapping departments. She enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at The Finley Hospital.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and a past member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Temple.

Lavina was a loving aunt and friend. She enjoyed the company of friends and family, solving puzzles and games of solitaire.

She dutifully visited her sister, Lulu, and sister-in-law, Maureen Griffin, on a daily basis during their residency in area nursing homes. Her presence will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Surviving are her nephews, James Griffin, of Midland, Mich., and Jay and Bruce Griffin, both of Madison, Wis.; and nieces, Gayla and Gaye, both of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lulu Griffin; four brothers, Leon, Mervil, Sumner and Arthur Jr. Griffin; and a sister-in-law, Maureen Griffin.
