Mrs. Richard A. (Marieta C.) Heim, 70, of 13272 Derby Grange Road, died at 2:27 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at home, after a courageous long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 4300 Asbury Road, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a Resurrection Catholic Church Parish Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Mrs. Heim formerly worked at Kane Transfer & Storage Co. in Dubuque prior to retiring and previously worked at the former Carter Machine & Tool Co. as a young lady.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1932, in Durango, Iowa, daughter of Martin and Katherine (Krug) Behnke. She married Richard A. Heim on May 15, 1954, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardening enthusiast. She was a very devoted wife and mother and dearly loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Richard A. Heim; two daughters, Marlene (James) Nesteby, of East Dubuque, Ill., and Mary Lou (Steve) Dietzel, of Cuba City, Wis.; three sons, Roger Heim and Ronald C. (Jean) Heim, both of Dubuque, and Rick (Nancy) Heim, of Farley, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Chris (Danielle) and Lynn (fiancé, Randy Valentine) Nesteby, Justin Heim, Shawn Dietzel, Kim (fiancé, Chris Streif), Kelly (special friend, Wes Gibbs), and Lisa and Dana Hoefer; a great-grandchild, Pierce Nesteby; a sister, Marie (Walter) Kutsch, of Dubuque; and a brother, Alfred (Loretta) Behnke, of Durango.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Marieta C. Heim Memorial Fund has been established by her family.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors at Dubuque Internal Medicine, the fifth floor oncology staff at The Finley Hospital and Hospice of Dubuque for the tender loving care extended to Marieta during these long and most difficult days.
