Wilma Madonna Berwanger, 75, of 2101 Washington, passed peacefully with loved ones at her bedside at 3:07 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday. Burial services will be at a private estate at a later date. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1927, in New Albin, Iowa, daughter of Jesse and Winifred (Moore) Garrett.

She was a homemaker and later worked at Timmerman's Supper Club and Mount Carmel. After retirement, she worked as an in-home caregiver for the elderly.

Wilma was devoted to her family and friends. With wit, humor and charm, she will always be loved by her children.

Surviving are 12 children, Gary Sires, Linda Smith, Sandy Pickel, Mary (Rich) Kearney, Mike Berwanger, Bonita (Randy) Pickel, adopted daughter, Phyllis Reelfes, Debra (Dave) Penhollow, Frank (Julie) Berwanger, Judy (Chuck) Ward, Kim Berwanger and Charles Berwanger; 27 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Cleo Johnston, of Moorhead, Minn., and Dorothy Strub, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Berwanger, in 1981; her parents; a granddaughter, Ravon Berwanger; a brother-in-law, Charles Berwanger; and two brothers, Earl and Roy Garrett.
