Viola M. Campbell, 85, of 3460 Starlite Drive, died of heart disease Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in First Congregational United Church of Christ Columbarium. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1917, in Dawson, Minn., daughter of Nels and Margret (Amundsen) Veum.

She married Howard Campbell on Nov. 21, 1940, in Appleton, Minn. They were blessed with 62 wonderful years together.

She received her registered nurse degree at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis.

She was an active member of the P.E.O. Club of Dubuque, Thunderhills Golf and Country Club and two bridge clubs. She was a longtime member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and will surely be missed by the church choir.

Surviving are her husband, Howard Campbell, of Dubuque; a daughter, Laurel (Ron) Lawson, of Galena, Ill.; three grandchildren, Arron (Andy) McCurley, Paige Duewel and Luke Lawson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie Duewel, in 1982; two brothers, Ole and Alden Veum; and a sister, Nell Hoffman.

In lieu of flowers, a Viola M. Campbell Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Mercy Medical Center for their care and support.
