Carolyn J. Francis, 55, of 5123 Pelican Drive, died at 1:07 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, following a sudden illness.

Private family services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, with the Rev. David Pacholke officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill.

Mrs. Francis was a home healthcare nurse for Finley Home Healthcare and was previously employed at the Dubuque Visiting Nurses Association.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1948, in Savanna, Ill., daughter of Jake and Lois (Christensen) Baker. She married John G. Francis on Feb. 1, 1980, in Galena, Ill.

She received her Nursing Associates Degree from the Clinton (Iowa) Community College.

The pride and joy of her life were her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her job caring for family, friends and patients.

Surviving are her children, Senior Navy Chief Tom Foote, stationed in Norfolk, Va., Glen (Katie) Foote, of Dubuque, and Christina (Mark) Williams, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Jackie (Dick) Christen, of Pecatonica, Ill., Dena Jones, of Reno, Nev., and Jelaney Bielema, of Clinton, Iowa; and two brothers, Richard (Pat) Baker, of Clinton, and Eugene "Michael" Baker, of Sioux City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John G. Francis, on Aug. 17, 2002; a brother, James Baker; and a sister, Lucinda Spicher.

A Carolyn J. Francis Memorial Fund has been established.
