RICKARDSVILLE, Iowa - Donald J. Hannan, 84, of 21928 Pfeiler Road, rural Rickardsville, died at 8 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 8 p.m.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1918, son of Leo and Mary (Schmitt) Hannan.

He married Marie Cummer on Oct. 3, 1939, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Balltown. He farmed with his wife all of their lives in the Rickardsville area.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rickardsville.

Surviving are three daughters, Pat (Louie) Decker, of Holy Cross, Lucy (Jim) Sperfslage, of Central City, and Doris Hannan, of Holy Cross; four grandchildren, Wayne (Kathy), Paul (Jolene) and Mike (Laura) Decker and Kim (Brad) Beuter; 13 great-grandchildren, Brian, Becky, Justin, Ryan, Kayla, Abbie, Madison and Andrew Decker, Hannah, Emma and Johnathon Beuter, and Jenna and Megan Sperfslage; a sister, Lucille Jaeger, of Balltown; five sisters-in-law, Marcella Schueller, Myrtle (Vic) Leibfried, Evelyn (John) Specht, Lucille (Robert) Brimeyer, LaVern (Honey) Cummer and Florence (Cyril) Habel; and two brothers-in-law, William (Marge) Cummer and Leon Cummer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, on June 22, 2002; his parents; and a grandson, Bruce Sperfslage.

Thank-you to the staff of Stonehill, Dr. John Hartman and the staff of Tri-State Family Practice for the love and kindness they showed to Donald and his family.
