Mrs. DeWayne J. (Bernadine C.) Freiburger, 80, of 10350 Boleyn Road, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, at Ennoble Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be the parish wake service at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Freiburger worked in housekeeping at Loras College and later in the laundry at Stonehill Care Center.

She was born on March 9, 1923, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank and Frances (Utzig) Stecklein. She married DeWayne J. Freiburger on Nov. 17, 1943, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Bernadine was a member of Holy Ghost Parish and Rosary Society and the Power of Prayer. She enjoyed doing needlework and baking for her family and "for the neighborhood."

Surviving are her husband, DeWayne J. Freiburger; two daughters, Linda L. (Dennis) Slowey, of Dubuque, and Susan K. (Douglas) Hausdorf, of Chesterfield, Mo.; a son, Wayne F. (Maureen) Freiburger, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Chaffee, Steve Driscoll, Lon Slowey, Tonya (Jason) Grawe, Chad Slowey and Kate and Jake Freiburger; four great-grandchildren, Nathan Driscoll, Hannah Slowey and Andrew and Autumn Grawe; a sister, Ethel (Melvin) Stillmunkes, of Dubuque; and a son-in-law, Keith Koeller, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Koeller; four sisters, Mrs. Norbert (Mildred) Freiburger, Mrs. Al (Lorraine) Germain, Mrs. Cletus (Marcella) Erschen and Mrs. Vincent (Catherine) Engler; and a brother and his wife, Leonard and Louise Stecklein.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52002.
