John E. "Jack" Bishop, 80, of Luther Manor, formerly of 2353 Graham Circle, died Monday, March 3, 2003, at Luther Manor.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church. Jack's cremated remains will be interred in St. John's Episcopal Church Columbarium. There will be no public visitation. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on April 19, 1922, in Gilbert, Minn., son of Orval and Mary "Isabel" (Sullivan) Bishop. He married Phyllis Tallman on May 29, 1942.

He served with the Army during World War II from 1942-1946.

He was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was very active in the Dubuque community, having been a charter member and past president of the Dubuque Key City Rotary Club and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he served in many capacities. He was a recipient of the St. George Episcopal Award.

For more than 40 years, he served with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the executive board, the Order of the Arrow, a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and served 12 years as camping committee chairman for Scout Camp Claus.

His career was in home furnishings. He worked at Younkers, Smulekoff's, Killian's, People's Furniture and lastly at Roshek's Department Store as divisional merchandise manager. He founded and owned Commercial Interiors, Inc. He also volunteered as a consultant for the Dubuque Small Business Development Center.

Jack willingly accepted requests for his time and efforts whenever asked.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Michael (Janet), of Solon, Iowa, and Edward (Theresa), of Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jason (Amy), Marcus and Erin Bishop; and a sister, Rosemary (Jack) Westfall, of Tavares, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Barbara Bishop.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Luther Manor and St. John's Episcopal Church.
