Michael J. O'Meara, Jr., 71, of 2844 Oak Meadow Court, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Ennoble Manor Care Center.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Council 510 rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. O'Meara, Jr. recently retired from RBC Dain Rauscher. He found his 42 years as an investment officer with Dain a stimulating and satisfying career.

He was born in Dubuque on Feb. 3, 1932. He married Janet M. Callewaert on Jan. 8, 1994.

He was a loyal, life-long member of St. Columbkille Parish, where he served as an usher for many years. He also attended the parish school, kindergarten through high school, graduating valedictorian with the class of 1950.

He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Loras College and a graduate degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska.

He interrupted graduate school to serve in the Army. Service included a tour of duty in Korea.

He enjoyed ballroom dancing and described himself as a history buff. He took an active interest in politics and right-to-life issues. He also championed the plight of Native Americans.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dubuque County Right to Life and the Loyal Order of Moose.

Surviving are his wife, Janet; and a sister, Colleen (Albert) Schams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael J. Sr. and Hernelda; and a brother, Jerry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Columbkille Parish and Hospice of Dubuque.

Michael's wife would like to thank the nursing staffs at Mercy Medical Center, Skilled Care and Ennoble Manor for caring for and about Michael. She also would like to express her heartfelt appreciation to Mercy Pastoral Care and Hospice of Dubuque.
