Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, October 16, 1890

On Monday night about 11 o’clock, Mrs. Merrill Wright, of Epworth, while visiting her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Martin, in Maquoketa, was suddenly stricken down with heart disease, to which she had been subject for some years. Deceased had retired as usual, but a strange sound soon came from her room that alarmed Dr. Martin, who went to see the cause, and found Mrs. Wright sitting in a chair and gasping with a pain in the heart. He offered assistance and about the moment he did so the lady raised her hands to the region of the heart and expired. She was a lady of many good qualities, a loving mother and a good Christian. She was intending to return to their home at Epworth today, but a Supreme Ruler determined otherwise. The remains were accompanied to Epworth yesterday by Dr. and Mrs. Martin, who will attend the funeral there today. Deceased was a widow about 70 years of age and leaves several children.
