Amos H. Peaslee - This gentleman, who was a half-brother of W.H. Eldredge of this city, as mentioned in these columns last week, died at Dubuque on the 28th ult. He was born in Burlington, Vermont, October 13, 1826. He was married in May, 1850, to Miss Frances Moody. In the same year, he left his native place and came to Sabula. Here he kept hotel. From here he moved to Dubuque and opened a hotel. Thence he went to Anamosa, where he was landlord of the Fisher House, postmaster and first mayor of the town. He returned to Dubuque in 1861, and kept the Julien House until 1864. Going on a farm near Anamosa he remained till 1866, when he again went back to Dubuque, where he resided until his death. He established and sucessfully managed the brewery in which was made the widely known ale which bears his name. He was Alderman and twice mayor of Dubuque. The city council and board of directors of the Northwestern Agricultural and Mechanical Society, of which he was a member, adopted resolutions of respect to his memory and attended his funeral in a body. Mr. Peaslee has been sick since last December. His ailment was a bilious disease, with latterly dropsical effusion of the heart and lungs. His funeral took place last Saturday afternoon, and notwithstanding the stormy weather was attended by a large concourse of the best citizens of Dubuque. -
