DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Jack Klein, 60, of 406 3rd St. SW, Dyersville, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Beckman Auditorium, Dyersville, with the Rev. Donald Klein officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Beckman Auditorium.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1942, in LaPorte City, son of Henry and Mary (Smith) Klein. He married Barbara Niederriter in June 1969, in Erie, Pa.

He grew up in Independence, and was a 1960 graduate of St. John's High School. He also was a graduate of Loras College, Dubuque, where he received his bachelor of science degree, and from St. Mary's College, Winona, where he received his master of science degree.

He moved to the Dyersville community in 1965. He began teaching at Xavier High School in 1965 and then taught at Beckman High School for many years, before assuming the post of principal.

Upon leaving Beckman, he once again took up the job he did so well, teaching, this time at Northeast Iowa Community College, Peosta. Teaching was the love of his life.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Klein, of Dyersville; a son, Dennis (Lisa) Klein, of Chesapeake, Va; a daughter, Debra (Paul) McGee, of Ames; two grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Donald Klein and Alan H. (Wanda) Klein, both of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Joan (John) Cassens, of Schleswig, Beth (Howard) Rupp, of Cleghorn, and Sr. Patrice Klein, of Hospers; and a sister-in-law, Cindy Klein, of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Klein.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Beckman High School, Dyersville, and Northeast Iowa Community College Scholarship Fund, Peosta.

Jack leaves a host of cherished friends who shared in so much of his life. They also are family. We thank these wonderful, compassionate friends who supported Jack and Barb through his battle with cancer.
