Helen J. Sass, 100, of ManorCare Health Services, formerly of McHenry, Ill., died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at ManorCare.

Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, McHenry, with burial in the church cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sass worked for the Western Electric Plant in Cicero, Ill., for many years.

She was born on March 19, 1902, in Chicago. She married Edward Sass in 1932, in Chicago. They were married for 50 years before his death in 1982.

She was deeply religious and her faith was a driving force in her life. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, McHenry, and a current member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She moved to Dubuque in 1994 to live with her great-nephew, Bill (Jan) Stoffel, DDS, and their children, Leah, Ellen and Will Stoffel on Fox Hollow Drive. She was a profound blessing to the Stoffel household.

Throughout her life, she was a sweet, loving person who took great joy in her family, friends, church and her independence.

Surviving are a grandson, Jay Sass, of Chicago; a granddaughter, Susan Wright, of Villa Park, Ill.; a great-grandson, Joey Camire, of Villa Park; a great-granddaughter, Lisa Camire, of Villa Park; and numerous great and great-great-nephews and nieces in the Chicago area.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leonard Sass; and 10 brothers and sisters.

The Stoffel family would like to thank the staff at ManorCare, especially Tammie and Lynne, for their compassionate and loving care of Helen.
