Sandra J. Kress, 63, of 631 North Burden, formerly of Potosi, Wis., died Sunday Feb. 23, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, surrounded by those who love her.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, l640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1940, in Dubuque, daughter of Karl and Mary "Janice" (Roth) Ricketts. She married George W. "John" Kress on Aug. 23, 1960, at St. Raphael's' Cathedral, Dubuque.

She worked at Marios, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish.

She loved to paint, draw, cook and do crafts. Her life was centered around her husband, children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, George W. "John" Kress; four daughters, Vikki (Doug) Vondran, Juli (Charlie) Skemp and Amy (Tom) Kress-Jordan, all of Dubuque, Staci (fiancé, Jim Lange) Kress, of East Dubuque, Ill.; and two sons, Rory Kress, Colona, Ill., and Russell Kress, East Moline, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; a brother, Karl (Joan) Ricketts, of East Dubuque; a sister, Mary Jo (Don) Eigenberger, of Dubuque; and a very special aunt, Madonna Kress.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Chad Vondran; and a sister, Janaan Ricketts.
