Waldo Eugene Brooks, 87, of Leisure World, Ariz., formerly of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at home.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mesa, Ariz. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque. The Melchers Mission Chapel, Mesa, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1915, in Dubuque, son of Maurice E. and Gertrude Brooks. He came to Arizona in 1970 and resided in Sun City.

He was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a bachelor of business administration in 1937. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and passed the Iowa Certified Public Accountants exam in one try.

During his lifetime, he was a CPA and senior partner in the accounting firm of O'Connor, Brooks & Co., P.C. in Dubuque.

He was a longtime Rotarian serving as president of clubs in Dubuque and Sun City and was a Harris Fellow. He served on the American Institute of CPA national board for many years.

Waldo was a bright spot in our family and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Surviving are his wife, Mayme D. Brooks; a son, Mike (Linda) Brooks; a brother, Ralph Brooks, of Sun City West; and a grandson, Michael (Lisa) Brooks.

Memorials may be given to American Cancer Research.
