Ethel E. Schanbeck, 88, of Bethany Home, formerly of 2424 Windsor Ave., died at 5:42 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

She was born on April 20, 1914, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank and Emma (Sieg) Brenke. She married Paul Schanbeck in 1950; he died on Feb. 5, 1994.

She was born and raised in Dubuque. Ethel was a homemaker and also sold Avon products. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ.

Surviving are two nieces and a nephew, Barbara Schiers, of Lake Villa, Ill., Jerry (Linda) Brenke, of Dubuque, and Darlene (Rick) Schaaf, of Denver, Iowa; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; and a sister, Viola Ellwanger.
