DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Lucille A. Recker, 92, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Dyersville, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Committal services will be in St. Francis Cemetery Chapel, Dyersville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester. The Rev. Ed Petty will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

She was born on April 27, 1910, in Dyersville, daughter of Fred and Mary (Steger) Soppe.

She married Joseph G. Ricken on Feb. 11, 1936. They farmed in the Ryan area until he died on Oct. 10, 1947. She later married Clarence B. Recker on June 14, 1954. They continued farming north of Dyersville until they moved to town in November 1970.

She and Clarence began a career of volunteerism for which she earned the Governor's Award, logging over 11,000 hours at the Dyersville Community Hospital and Oak Crest Manor Nursing Home. Clarence died on Aug. 7, 1993. She moved to Rockford near her family shortly thereafter.

She was a member of the Dyersville Senior Citizens and the Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are a son, Donald (Ginny) Ricken, of Rockford; four daughters, Sr. Doris Recker, OSF, of Midlothian, Ill., Edith (Dave) Risley, of Campbell, Mo., Phyllis (Ron) Burget, of Ankeny, and Ellen (Brian) Desbiens, of Omemee, Ontario, Canada; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Laban, of Worthington.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Anita Gibbons, Bernice Schumacher and Lillian McCoy; and a brother, Russell Soppe.

Memorial may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque, in Lucille's name.
