FARLEY, Iowa- Ronayne W. "Red" Baker, 70, of Rock Island, Ill., formerly of Farley, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, with burial in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military rites will be accorded by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where there will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Baker was a meat buyer for the Eagle Food Centers for 32 years and retired in 1987.

He was born on July 3, 1932, in Farley, son of Raymond and Stella (Benton) Baker. He married La Vonne Brown on Aug. 20, 1955, in Cedar Rapids; she died on Nov. 2, 2001.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church and Moline American Legion Post 246.

Surviving are a son, Ronald W. Baker, of St. Cloud, Minn.; granddaughters, Jessica and Emily Baker, both of Peosta; a sister, Sondra Spoerre, of Sherrill; and a brother, Donald Baker, of Tazewell, Va.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynne Baker; his parents; and a brother, Gerald.

Memorials may be given to the American Legion Post 246.
