EPWORTH, Iowa - Mrs. Francis (Esther Grace) Fangman, 71, of 203 5th Ave. SW, Epworth, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at home, surrounded by her family, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Epworth. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Fangman worked at the Ertl Co. in Dyersville for 30 years, retiring in 1997.

She was born on June 28, 1931, in Dyersville, daughter of August and Rosa (Steffen) Trenkamp. She married Francis Fangman on April 16, 1952, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville.

She received her education in the Dyersville area schools.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Epworth, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Council 5513 of Peosta.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Francis Fangman, of Epworth; five children, Diane (Merlin) Gehrke, of Davenport, Patty (Jim) Leibold, of Epworth, Larry (Kimberly) Fangman, of Elkhorn, Neb., Ken (Donna) Fangman, of Farley, and Kevin Fangman, of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Hans and Aaron Gehrke, Elizabeth (Robert) Hall, Michael and Michelle Leibold, and Adam and Cara Fangman; and two sisters and three brothers, Hilda Vorwald, of Hazel Green, Wis., Frank Trenkamp, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Emma Trenkamp, Albert (Kathleen) Trenkamp and Ralph (Sally) Trenkamp, all of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edmund Trenkamp; and a sister, Mary Trenkamp.

An Esther Fangman Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kirk Payne, Dr. Michael Chapman, Dr. Luke Dolan and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care.
