James A. Hawk, 51, of 14469 Universal Drive, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, after a short illness.

Chapel services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Hawk was employed in construction as a dump truck driver for many years and was lastly employed by Tschiggfrie Excavating for eight years.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, son of Clarence L. and Bonnie "JoAnn" (Colvin) Hawk. He married Linda L. Thissen on Sept. 26, 1993, in Dubuque.

He attended Western Dubuque High School.

He was an accomplished pool player and played in several pool tournaments. He also was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed his Betty Boop and Harley Davidson collection. He liked to make his friends laugh.

Jim will be missed by his family and his dog, "Yogi Bear."

Surviving are his wife, Linda L. Hawk; his mother, JoAnn Hawk, of Raymond, Iowa; his father, Clarence L. Hawk, of East Dubuque, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Lori A. (Robert) Slattery, of Dubuque; a stepson, Bob J. Kunkel (Jan Dunne), of Clarence, Iowa; three step-grandsons, Matthew, Dylan and Alex Slattery; two sisters, Julie A. (Patrick) Naderman, of St. Donatus, Iowa, and Cindy M. (Darryl) Galle, of Dubuque; a brother, Brian R. Hawk, of Leisure Lake, Bernard, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

A James A. Hawk Memorial Fund has been established.
