Cyril F. Kruse

Cyril F. Kruse, 81, of 1034 Judy Court, died at 8:19 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Dubuque Post 6 and the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1927, in Dubuque, son of Cyril B. and Esther (Kamps) Kruse. He served his country for 20 years, which began in the Navy where he served in Japan during World War II. He then entered the Air Force and served until his military retirement in 1961.

He was employed at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana for 18 years, retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed spending lots of hours with the Lord, reading His word, studying the scriptures, listening to Christian music and praying for family and others. He also enjoyed watching the many birds, rabbits and squirrels that he kept fed outside his home.

Dad never knew a stranger, was kind to everyone he met and treasured his walks and coffee with his early morning mall buddies.

Surviving are his former wife, Marilyn Kruse, of Eau Claire, Wis.; three children, Karyn (Lyle) Quandt, of Eau Claire, Kevin Kruse, of Bagdad, Ariz., and Kelly (Mark) Christian, of Pleasanton, Calif.; grandchildren, Erin Quandt, of Milwaukee, Adam Quandt, of Eau Claire, Taylor Kruse, of Prescott, Ariz., and Jessica Leonard, of Garden Valley, Texas; a sister, Arlene Bovee (Don Graver), of Dubuque; and a special niece, Lori (Ken) Henkel and children, Ashley, Andre and little Raylee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for all the care and kindness they gave to Dad.
