Samuel J. Ruppel, 5-day-old son of Jeffrey and Lisa (Smith) Ruppel, of 2402 Pinehurst Court, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Children's Hospital of Iowa at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where friends may call after noon Tuesday. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Feb. 9, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, son of Jeffrey and Lisa (Smith) Ruppel.

Surviving are his parents, Jeffrey and Lisa Ruppel, of Dubuque, and his loving and would be best friend, Kona, their golden retriever; maternal grandparents, William and Marlene Smith, of Las Cruces, N.M.; paternal grandparents, Phillip and Judy Ruppel, of Dubuque; and paternal great-grandfather, Gene Shirley.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be sent to Hills and Dales, 1011 Davis St., Dubuque, Iowa 52001 and Children's Hospital of Iowa, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52242.
