Jeffrey John Riniker

GUTTENBERG, Iowa -- Jeffrey John Riniker, 36, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of North Buena Vista and Guttenberg, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, surrounded by friends and family, following a long battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday June 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Key West, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 4 p.m.

He was born on July 26, 1972, in Guttenberg, son of Donald and Carol Riniker. He graduated from Guttenberg High School and went on to receive a degree from Hamilton Business College in computer programming.

He worked as a computer network administrator for PRC in Cedar Rapids.

Jeff enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, watching baseball and hockey and spending time with friends and family. He particularly enjoyed the time he spent with his longtime girlfriend, Junoa Thomas, and her children, Josh and Elyse.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Dave (Holly) and Doug Riniker; a nephew, Alex Riniker; his grandmother, Mae Ewing; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was greeted into heaven by his grandfather, John Ewing; his grandparents, Art and Dorothy Riniker; his aunt, Sandy Fangman; and his aunt, Shirley Riniker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave. Hiawatha, IA 52233, in Jeff's memory.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Timothy Moynihan, of the Mayo Clinic, for the years of care he provided and to Dr. Ken Cearlock and all of the loving, compassionate nurses of the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, for providing an outstanding level of dedication and care to Jeff.
