Imelda K. Piekenbrock

Telegraph Herald - Friday, February 14, 2003

Imelda K. "Doe" Piekenbrock, 75, of 1215 Arrowhead Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the church, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3:30 p.m. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Imelda Kathleen was proudly welcomed into this world on Aug. 11, 1927, daughter of Ellen and Senator Richard Louis Murphy of Dubuque. She married Dr. Thomas Piekenbrock on Nov. 27, 1956, in the chapel at the Bishop's residence.

She was a graduate of the former Academy of the Visitation and went on to receive her bachelor degree from Barret College in Evanston, Ill. Following her education, she had a successful career as a cytology technician at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, until the birth of her last child.

She was a devout Catholic and a member of the Theresians, St. Columbkille's Parish and the Mercy Auxiliary. Her faith was the foundation of her daily life, and was apparent to all who knew her.

She lived life to its fullest and always brought laughter and joy into a room. While golfing with her friends and husband was her fondest pastime, she enjoyed all activities that allowed her to spend time with her family and friends.

Her sparkling blue eyes and Irish laugh will be remembered and missed. She was a loving, fun mom, a great Nana and a dear friend to so many. We thank God for the short time she was with us.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Thomas Piekenbrock; five children, Barbara (Dennis) Schlegel, Dr. Ellen (Dr. Stephen) Hoy and Charles "Chip" (Susan) Piekenbrock, all of Dubuque, Roger Piekenbrock, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kara (Tim) Teuscher, of The Woodlands, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Martha and Eric Schlegel, Patrick, Kalie, Jack and Natalie Hoy, Audrey and Olivia Piekenbrock, and Ellie and Susie Teuscher; a brother, Charles Murphy, of Marion, Iowa; two sisters, Ann Ginder, of Dubuque, and Ellen (Dr. George) Flood, of Corpus Christi, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Redmond Reilly, of North Hollywood, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Reilly; two brothers-in-law, Tom Cody and John Ginder; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Murphy.

Memorials may be given to St. Columbkille's Church, the Dubuque Rescue Mission, and the charity of your choice.
