Eleanore J. "Ellie" Herburger, 82, of Luther Manor, formerly of 2339 Coventry Park, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1920, in Avoca, Wis., daughter of Edwin and Edna (Geller) Fleming. She married Neil Herburger on Jan. 4, 1942; he died on June 22, 1988.

She had resided in Dubuque since the early 1940s.

She lived life with a lot of zip. She bowled in the Monday night bowling league for many years, enjoyed Tuesday bridge and loved flowers.

We thank God for Gram's faithfulness toward her family and friends, for her energy and enthusiasm, for her quick wit and sound advice, for her depth of knowledge and her love of life.

Surviving are three children, Con (Mary J.) Herburger, of East Dubuque, Ill., Ann (Gary) Potter, of Dubuque, and Mary (Parker) Darr, of Lake Ozark, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Christine (Dan) Murphy, Mike (Alison) Herburger, Jeff Herburger, John (Leslie) Potter, Kerri Potter, Jim (Gina) Potter, David and Michael Potter, Michelle (Ben) Hoch, Marya (Todd) Thomas and David Joseph Darr; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Douglas (Nancy) Fleming.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Edwin Sr. and Daryl.

An Eleanore Herburger Memorial Fund has been established.

Ellie's family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Luther Manor, Dr. Kukla and his staff and Hospice of Dubuque.
