Lorraine S. Haas, 79, of Sunset Park Place, formerly of 525 Rhomberg Ave., died at 6:55 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at noon today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1923, in Bernard, Iowa, daughter of William and Anna (Johnston) McCarthy.

She married Michael "Red" Walsh on April 8, 1943, in Leadville, Colo.; he died on April 10, 1977. She then married Warren "Whitey" Haas on Sept. 8, 1981, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque; he died on Oct. 15, 1995.

Lorraine had been a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish. Lorraine was a parts manager at the Eska Co. for 21 years, retiring in October 1981.

Surviving are her children, David (Kaye) Haas, of Dubuque, Sandi (Terry) Schmidt, of Zion, Ill., and Sue (Mike) Schwartz, of La Motte, Iowa; her grandchildren, Nikki and Jeff Schwartz, Jacob and Molly Schwartz and Kyal Haas; three sisters, Ann Heacock, of Dubuque, Joan (Eldon) Schmitt, of Peosta, Iowa, and Mary (Arvel) Smith, of Graf, Iowa; and three brothers, William McCarthy and Robert (Dorene) McCarthy, both of Dubuque, and Loras (Isabelle) McCarthy, of Cascade, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orland and Justin; a sister, Eileen; two brothers-in-law, Arvel Smith and Louis Heacock; and two sisters-in-law, Isabelle McCarthy and Alice McCarthy.

Memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Red Cross.

Lorraine's family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Sunset Park Place and the nurses and staff in the emergency room and cardiac care at Mercy Medical Center.
