Mrs. Vernon F. (Dorothy V. "Dottie") Thomas, 69, of 5041/2 Central Ave., died at 3 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at home, of natural causes.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Thomas owned and operated Dottie's Cafe, 504 Central Ave., since 1990.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1933, in Jackson County, Iowa, daughter of Matthew A. and Margaret (Weber) Kremer. She married Vernon F. Thomas on Feb. 7, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She enjoyed stock car racing and making flower arrangements and crafts. She often ran a stand at Farmers Market. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Vernon F. Thomas; seven daughters, Sandy K. (John) Bechen, Sharon R. (George) Abresch, Sally A. (Rick) Lang and Stacey M. (Jim) LaPage, all of Dubuque, Sheila M. White, of Holy Cross, Iowa, Sharlene L. (Mick) Cornwell, of Manchester, Iowa, and Suzanne M. (Randy) Ristau, of Rockford, Ill.; four sons, Steve M. Thomas (fiancee, Julie Vosberg), of Kieler, Wis., and Stan C. (Carla) Thomas, Scott F. (Alesia) Thomas and Shawn M. (Peggy) Thomas, all of Dubuque; 32 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Theis, Mrs. Martha Rhomberg and Mrs. Veronica (Leonard) Rhomberg, all of Dubuque; a special niece, Mary Jane Markus, of Dubuque; and two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Kremer, of St. Donatus, Iowa, and Veronica Kremer, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three grandchildren, John Bechen Jr., James Brom and Michelle LaPage; a sister, Gertrude Butlett; and four brothers, Lawrence, Albert, Roy and Arnold "Whitey" Kremer.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Parish, 1584 White St., Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
