Betty L. Niehaus

GUTTENBERG, Iowa -- Betty L. Niehaus, 82, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 24, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial will be in the Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Guttenberg. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.

She was born on July 28, 1926, in rural Osterdock, daughter of Sumner (Sam) and Sarah (Sadie Pierce) Moser. She married Dale H. Niehaus on Nov. 2, 1946; he preceded her in death. They farmed in the Millville area. She also worked at numerous jobs including Kuempel Hardware and Niehaus Jewelry.

Betty loved to spend time picking on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards, quilting and traveling.

Surviving are seven children, Jim (Connie) Niehaus, of Guttenberg, Bob (Audrey) Niehaus, of Summerville, S.C., Becky (Gene) Lake, of Guttenberg, Sandy (Marvin) Dean, of Crete, Neb., Tom (Joyce) Niehaus, of Byron, Ill., Bill (Becky) Niehaus, of Holy Cross, and Linda (Rick) Aulwes, of Guttenberg; 18 grandchildren, Tim Niehaus, Aaron Niehaus, Sherry Mueller, Misty Taylor, Mellissa (Jeff) Lindsay, Dusty Mizzell, Bobby Niehaus, Angela Lake, Nicole (Nate) Teut, Tracie (Jeff) McCambridge, Michelle (Aaron) Fordham, Dawn (D.J.) Gile, Christen (Chad) Thompson, Daniel Niehaus, Abbie (Jeremy) Petsche, Amanda (Chad) Ihde, Robert Aulwes and Matthew Aulwes; 16 great-grandchildren, Justin, Cameron and Ashley Mueller, Brian Stege, Josh and Shaun Niehaus, Nicole and Hunter Taylor, Kara Jo Lindsay, Maddox Teut, Alyson, Emily and Julia Fordham, Hannah Petsche, Kaysi and Haleigh Ihde with two great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild on the way; a brother, Hank (Corine) Moser, of Guttenberg; two sisters, Hilda (Dick) Kalina, of Ill., and Grace Mann, of Calif.; a brother-in-law, Eugene Handke; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Moser and Bonnie Moser; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Terri Petit; four brothers, Andy (Delpha) Moser, Laverne ( Gisela) Moser, Elmer (Blackie) Moser and Donnie Moser; and two sisters, Ellen Handke and Jeannine (Ed) Thiltgen.
