Sister Mary Ellenette Hines, BVM, died at Marian Hall, Dubuque, IA on April 11, 1989.
She was born in Cedar Rapids on March 8, 1903 to Mary Ellen (Larkin) Hines and the late Michael Hines, five weeks after her father, was killed in a train accident in Morning Sun, IA.
Sister Mary Ellenette Hines was an educated woman, a gifted artist, a generous religious. She perceived reality as a placed filled with God's presence. She saw her students as persons with infinite possibilities. She saw Marian Hall as a place of life and the Marian Hall staff as persons of beauty and dignity. Sister created life as a gifted artist who earned a BA in art, an MA in art and an MFA in painting. Sister Mary Ellenette served as an elementary school teacher and art teacher in 12 different missions in Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Arizona, Iowa, California and Mississippi.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Miguela Hines, BVM of Mt. Carmel Motherhouse, Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Thomas Hines.
