MRS. HOWARD M. (Susan B. Hass) HARTMAN

PEOSTA, Iowa - Susan B. Hartman, 95, of Strawberry Point, formerly of Peosta, died at 6:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Lutheran Care Center, Strawberry Point.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Centralia Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Centralia. There will be no public visitation. The Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on July 13, 1907, in Maynard, daughter of Anton and Susan (Sundermeyer) Haas. She graduated from Maynard High School.

On Nov. 5, 1929, she was united in marriage to Howard M. Hartman in Maynard. The couple farmed in the Peosta area until their retirement in 1967. Mr. Hartman preceded her in death on August 27, 1994.

She was a former member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. Susan enjoyed many pastimes, including fishing, card playing and gardening, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth (Ruth) Hartman, of Central City, and Wilburt (Helen) Hartman, of Epworth; three daughters, Shirley (Richard) Peters, of Greenville, Pa., Rita Jackson, of Anadarko, Okla., and Sandra (Kenneth) Brady, of Lost Nation; 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eleinor Harris, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Paul Hartman, on Nov. 11, 1941; a daughter-in-law, Mary Hartman; and two brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be given to Lutheran Care Center, Strawberry Point, in memory of Susan B. Hartman.
