EARLVILLE, Iowa -- LaVerne H. Roling, 83, of Earlville, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earlville, with the Rev. Herbert Tegeler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Earlville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home, Earlville, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Roling; seven children, Diane Tigges, of Madison, Wis., Duane (Deb) Roling, of Dyersville, Daniel (Diane) Roling and Deb (Keith) Hunt, both of Earlville, Darlene Hass, of Van Horne, and Dawn Roling and Doug (Angie) Roling, both of Cedar Rapids; four siblings, Ted (Helen) Roling, of Eldora, Arlene Johannes, of Dubuque, Al (Mary) Roling, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Arthur "Mike" (Paula) Roling, of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Frances Roling; a daughter at birth, Denise Frances Roling; and 10 siblings, Rose Fessler, Agnes Sellner, Amanda Schraad, Mary Cherne, Hilda Lehman, Leona (Lukan) Cherne, Viola Sellner, Helen Bessey, Raymond Roling and Donald Roling.

In lieu of flowers, a LaVerne Roling Memorial Fund has been established.
