Betty A. Purcell

Betty A. Purcell, 79, of Bethany Home, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on May 26, 1929, in Rockford, Ill., daughter of Frank and Florence (Magerus) Cain. She graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1947.

She married James Purcell on May 22, 1954, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Surviving are her husband, Jim Purcell, of Dubuque; children, Susan Purcell, of Dubuque, Kathleen Purcell, of Clive, Iowa, Mark (Judy), of Strathroy, Ontario, Canada, and Craig (Tanya), of Corning, Calif.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Marie Jogerst, of Dubuque, Margaret Conner, of Burlington, Iowa, Catherine Novis, of Great Falls, Mont., and Rita Purcell, of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joyce Cain; and an uncle, Bart Cain.

A Betty Purcell Memorial Fund has been established.
