Mary T. (Mrs. Kenneth H.) Pottebaum Nicks 1922-2004

Mary T. Nicks, 81, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 4131 Bluebird Drive, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at the care center.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery, where friends may call after moon Monday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. The Hoffman-Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, in in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nicks worked at Pfohl’s Custom Draperies, retiring in 1976, and prior to that, worked at Hal Judge Interiors, both in Dubuque.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1922, in Centralia, Iowa, daughter of John H. and Ethel (Clemens) Pottebaum. She married Kenneth H. Nicks on Sept. 14, 1942, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1990.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the Dubuque Women’s Club, and the Dubuque Garden Club.

She was a talented china painter and enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jean (Tommy) Boots, of Dubuque; a granddaughter, Angela Boots, of Dubuque; three sisters, Ethel MacDonald and Amelia Dodson, both of Chesapeake Beach, MD., and Bernadette “Mickie” (Dan) Leibfried, of Dubuque; a brother, Leo (Shirley) Pottebaum, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Darlene Pottebaum, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diane Nicks; and two brothers, Lawrence and Edward Pottebaum.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center, especially Sharyn and Wendy, for the wonderful care extended to Mary.
