Joseph P. Nicks 1914-1999

Joseph P. Nicks, 84, of 2625 Mesa Drive, died at 4:49 a.m. Sunday July 4, 1999, at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a Parish wake service at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Nicks worked at Pline battery Co as an automobile mechanic for many years, until his retirement.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1914, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Pearl (McCarthy) Nicks. He married Adeline C. Mentz on April 25, 1938, at St. John's Church, Peosta, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and its Holy Name Society. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Adeline C. Nicks, a daughter, Mary Kay (Stephen) Petsch, of Dubuque; two sons, Gary J. (Mary Jean) Nicks, and Melvin P. Nicks, both of Dubuque; two granddaughters, Joan Nicks and Sharon (Michael) Ellerman, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Reuben (Alberta) Pline and two brothers, Ken Nicks and Ed Nicks.

A Joseph P. Nicks Memorial Fund has been established.
