MRS. CHARLES H. (Violet F. Zepeski) SCHULTZ

Mrs. Charles H. (Violet F.) Schultz, 79, of 2785 Oak Crest Drive, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Roselawn Chapel at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, with Pastor Melissa Warren-Spoerl, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

She was born on March 24, 1923, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Bernice (Cartigny) Zepeski. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1940. She married Charles H. Schultz on Nov. 17, 1944, at Fort Blanding Army Base in Florida.

As a teenager, she worked at the family boarding house and delivered groceries for her grandfather’s grocery store (now the Copper Kettle). Other employment included Northhome Furniture, Roshek’s, where she was one of the white gloved ladies operating the elevators, and Kreskies. Most of her life was dedicated to being a devoted wife and mother.

As a child, the Zepeski kids of Violet and brother, Norman, danced with the Berk Revue on every public stage in the area. As a talented musician, she was known for her accordion and piano abilities.

In later years, Charles and Violet loved to travel, dance, root for the Hawkeyes basketball team and she was a die-hard Cubs fan. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

She was particularly fond of her grandchildren, Karla and Darin. She was a kind person, always thinking of others before herself. Her friends and family will miss her strong will, the laughs she sought and shared and her gentleness.

At 5’2” with eyes of blue, petite Violet, with the practical diligence of her loving Charles, successfully managed her heart condition. The love and spirit of her heart will be with us all always.

Surviving are her husband, Charles; a son, Don (Kathie) Schultz, of Pawnee, Ill.; a daughter, Judy Schultz, of Dubuque; a granddaughter, Karla Schultz, of Denver; a grandson, Darrin Schultz, of Pawnee; a brother, Norman (Merry) Zepeski, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Arlene Vickrey, of Chenoa, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Lawrence (Marie) Schultz, of Dubuque; and cousins, Bob Cartigny and Peachy Avenarius.

A Violet F. Schultz Memorial Fund has been established by her family.

Many thanks to Dr. Kirkendall, nurse Kate, Dr. Martin, Dr. Whalen and the emergency room staff and Intensive Care Unit staff at The Finley Hospital for the care given to Violet over the years. Because of your unbelievable care at times, we had Mom with us longer than we could have imagined.
