Margaret M. Schadler

Margaret M. Schadler, 98, of Ennoble Manor, formerly of 1491 Rosedale, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Ennoble Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where there will be at wake service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1909, in Centralia, Iowa, daughter of Martin and Clara (Spiegel) Behnke Sr. She married Milton Schadler on July 14, 1937, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1965.

Margaret worked as a nanny for Dr. John Thorson. She is fondly remembered by many parents and children for providing childcare in her home over a period of 30 years, until her retirement at age 75.

Although she enjoyed canasta, her favorite game was euchre, and she "never lost" because she had so much fun playing.

Margaret was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Rosary Society. She had a strong faith and prayed the rosary daily.

She was good-natured and happy to help out when needed.

Surviving are her children, Janet Wesenberg, of Arvada, Colo.; Joseph (Robin) Schadler, of LeClaire, Iowa, Judy (Thomas) Syke and James (Sandra) Schadler, both of East Dubuque, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Eulalia Schadler; and a former daughter-in-law, Kathy Schadler, of Bettendorf, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Michael Schadler; a son-in-law, John Wesenberg; her sisters, Anna Naumann and Marie Williams; her brothers, Martin, Joseph, Leo, Carl and Aloysius Behnke; and three siblings who died in infancy, Clarence, Rose and Rosalyn.

A Margaret Schadler Memorial Fund has been established.

Online condolences may be left for the family at info@egelhofsiegertcasper.com.

The family extends a special thanks to Cozy Corner Adult Daycare, Hospice of Dubuque (especially Diane and Amy) and the staff at Ennoble Manor who lovingly cared for Margaret for three years.
