Brendan A. Forrest

Brendan A. Forrest, 81, of 1586 Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dwayne J. Thoman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St. where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Limavady, Ireland, son of James and Sara (O'Neill) Forrest. He arrived in Dubuque in 1951 and married Carol Donahue on Aug. 29, 1953, at Nativity Catholic Church.

Brendan was employed at Interstate Power Company until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of Nativity parish, a former member of the Legion of Mary, the Knights of Columbus and a past leader of Sacred Heart Charismatic Prayer Group and a dedicated Christian.

He was a member of the first Human Rights Commission formed in Dubuque, once very active in politics and the labor movement.

Surviving are his wife, Carol; five sons, John, Michael, James, Patrick (Kim) and Joseph; a daughter, Mary; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, and another whose birth is imminent.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters, including Veronica Paradiso, of Dubuque.
