BERNARD, Iowa -- Lucille Julia Stanton, 97, of 1404 County Road D 61, Bernard, died Saturday morning, March 22, 2008, at her home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa, where the family will receive friends after 10 a.m. A private visitation for Lucille will be held at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa.

Lucille held a deep reverence for life in all its forms. Her healing hands comforted many and she will be greatly missed. In keeping with Lucille's wishes, her body will be donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics College of Medicine.

She was born June 8, 1910, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of John F. and Anna (Weldon) Maher. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Cedar Rapids. She was also a 1931 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. Lucille practiced nursing in Rochester, Chicago, Detroit and Cedar Rapids.

She married William Stanton on June 23, 1942; he preceded her in death in 1996. They farmed in the Bernard area for more than 50 years.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Garryowen, a member of its Rosary Society, and a member of the Cascade Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Our Blessed Mother Court 1926.

Surviving are six children, Ann McNee, of Marion, Margaret Stanton, of Sweet Briar, Va., William Stanton, of Minneapolis, Mary LaGrange, of Springville, and John and Therese Stanton, both of Bernard; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Maher; and a sister, Sister Anna Louise Maher, BVM.
