Alyssa was born on March 5, 1995, in Dubuque. She was a student at Eisenhower School in Aulanda Stecklein's class.

Alyssa was a special little angel who overcame many obstacles and taught many the importance of life.

Her favorite colors were pink and purple, and she was known to mischievously pull hair and jewelry.

She loved to laugh and will be remembered for her smile that could light up a room.

Surviving are her parents, John and Jeanne Vondal, of Dubuque, and her mother, Lanette Carey; four brothers, Jeremy (Sabrina) Vondal, Josh (Steph Stapelton) Vondal, Greg Klauer and Austin Camp; three sisters, Crystal (Brook Whitlow) Vondal, Brandi (Luke Garrigus) Carey and Meagan Arthofer, and her dad, Mike Arthofer; maternal grandmother, Carol Westemeyer, of Dubuque; paternal grandparents, Leo Vondal and Al and Jeri Hayes, all of Dubuque, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Phyllis Vondal; maternal grandfather, Fred Westemeyer; a sister, Kayla Vondal, and a cousin, Scotty Carey.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Dawn; Dr. Douglas Olk and Nurse Margo; the nurses and staff of Mercy Pediatrics and The University of Madison Hospital; and the entire staff at Eisenhower School, especially Aulanda Stecklein.
