Roger A. Whited

Roger Allen Whited, 49, of Marengo, formerly of Dubuque, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a short illness.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 22, in the First Church of the Open Bible, in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Dan Sanford officiating. Friends may call at the church after 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22. Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Eastern, Central, and Western Iowa.

Roger was born on Dec. 1, 1958 in Cedar Rapids. He was a Navy veteran and a self employed painting contractor. He enjoyed playing golf at the Emerald Canyon in Western Arizona. He also enjoyed gardening, flowers, cats, fishing and hunting. While in the Navy, he was trained as a chef and chauffeur.

Roger never met a stranger. He knew how to win your heart no matter what. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his parents, Don and Geri Whited, of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Sandee (Mark) Steinberg, of Marion; aunts and uncle, Betty and Don Schmidt, of Marion, and Jean Whited, of Las Cruces, N.M.; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Earl Whited.
